It's time to put an end to saying this
I just don't know how to explain my ideas clearly.
A lot of students tell me they want to express their ideas more clearly, but they just don't know where to start.
And, I get it. I was one of those students.
In my undergrad, I visited the writing centre frequently and scoured book stores and libraries for writing resources, trying to figure out what I needed to do to write clear, compelling essays that would get me into grad school.
But, I ran into the same challenges my students do today. I struggled to find a good writing instructor and I got tired of reading unhelpful (and pretty dry!) writing books that preached a lot about grammar and offered hardly any instruction on simple and effective ways to give your writing a little scholarly style.
Spend less time & energy waiting and hoping for clean and well crafted sentences to magically appear on your screen and - use my proven methods to get the results you need and enjoy the writing process again.
After hours of researching your topic, thinking about what you want to say, and putting together a choppy and scrambled first draft (something akin to word vomit), you sit down to rework your essay and that nagging question pops into your head...
"Now, what should I do?"
In the world of essay writing, a messy draft is a necessity. I always tell my students, A messy draft is perfect. We can work with a messy draft. But, knowing how to pull your ideas together, create balanced sentences, and make your ideas stand out and get the attention they deserve doesn't tap into the same skill set as writing a messy first draft.
That's why I created UnDressing An Essay - a comprehensive digital tutorial that reveals practical writing strategies and techniques scholars and authors use to craft compelling and easy-to-read essays.
WHAT'S INSIDE
I've picked apart, dug into and - like the name of the tutorial says, undressed - an academic essay to reveal to you the small, stylistic things scholars do in their writing that allows them to articulate their ideas clearly, establish credibility, present a unified and coherent argument and, ultimately, establish an authentic and authoritative scholarly voice.
So, what you get in this tutorial is...
