Trying to detangle and sort out a bunch of different ideas for someone else to read and understand, while not having an opportunity to ask you any questions, is not an easy task. But, it's a lot more difficult when you're not sure if you're on the right track or exactly what you're trying to say.

YOUR THESIS STATEMENT DRIVES YOUR ESSAY. TELL IT WHERE YOU NEED TO GO.

Let me give you all my tips & experience to get you thinking about essays & thesis statements a little differently so your ideas all connect, you spend time doing research that will actually help you, and you write with the finish line in sight.

I wish someone had told me that when you get your thesis statement right, you’ll have most of the answers you need to get from your first sentence to your last sentence.

In this 25 page thesis thinking manual, I show you how to write a thesis statement that ties your ideas together and sets boundaries to stop your ideas from wandering here, there & everywhere. The best part? I make sure to introduce you to the kinds of thesis statements you don't want to make an appearance in your essay. And, I've made it easy for you to catch these essay criminals by naming & profiling them. Because, what you can name, you can identify. And, what you can identify, you can catch & correct.

HOW TO SHIFT YOUR MINDSET BEYOND THE 3 ARGUMENT THESIS STATEMENT
and develop bigger picture thinking that profs want to see

THESIS STATEMENT MUST KNOWS
to make sure you have a solid foundation to ensure all your new ways of thinking are rooted in a solid foundation

PART !

Do This, Not This

Ever get the feeling that the rules of academic writing are a bit shifty? Writing is one of those grey zones where it sometimes feels like no two teachers are ever quite on the same page.

I'll get you on the right track and demystify argumentative writing so you know exactly what you're working towards. And, just to make sure you steer clear of possible landmines, I'll point out all the red flags profs notice in persuasive writing to safeguard your grade from taking a serious hit.

PART 1 SUMMARY:

5 MYTHS OF ACADEMIC WRITING

because it's not always clear what you should and shouldn't be doing in an essay

RED FLAGS THAT CATCH PROFS' ATTENTION

In Part 3, I spill a few of the best kept writing secrets to give your writing an author's edge. Instead of sounding like a wordy, pompous scholar, you'll learn how to make language & sentence structure work for you and harness a voice that's strong, engaging and undeniably you.

PART 2

Deep Dive Thinking

Great ideas come from diving beneath a text's surface. I'll teach you 4 effective critical reading strategies that are guaranteed to get you reading and thinking more like a prof!

By the end of this section, you'll be thinking more creatively and writing more critically as you dive below the surface of a text to extract the kind of content that turns your good ideas into amazing ideas.

PART 2 SUMMARY:

PART 3 SUMMARY:

TRANSPARENCY IN LANGUAGE

because you'll never make a strong argument if your reader doesn't believe you're credible & knowledgeable

SENTENCES WITH POP!

because even the most compelling ideas stated poorly lose their lustre

SAY WHAT YOU MEAN & SHOW WHO YOU ARE

because academic writing done right feels more like a conversation, and you need to make sure you're a participant

4 TYPES OF CONTENT PROFS WANT

because good essays share good ideas, but outstanding essays share outstanding ideas

EXAMPLES OF GOOD CONTENT FROM A GREAT AUTHOR

because seeing this type of thinking at work gives you a blueprint to use in your own writing

PART4 SUMMARY:

SIZING UP A PARAGRAPH

because cramming your ideas into a box that's too small creates confusion, and having your ideas float around in big, open spaces creates more confusion!

OUTLINING 101

because order and structure don't just appear, you need to build them into your argument

THE FIRST SENTENCE

because essays that make the grade start and finish strong

PART 4

Level Up Your Form

Before you leave class, I make sure to set you up for success on your next paper. You'll sign out knowing how to write a must-read-twice opening line and put together a simple, but effective outline to make sure your reader (your prof!) follows your argument from intro to conclusion and crosses the finish line wearing a smile of agreement.

I absolutely LOVED the Make It Persuasive seminar, and I would 100% sign up for any future seminars. Every word you spoke was so valuable. I could attend this seminar over and over again and still take something new out of it each time.

A very well organized and well presented seminar. Jenn provided the tools and resources necessary to writing a thoughtful and effective paper. She used a sample essay to demonstrate her key points and provided a printable resource to use throughout the presentation that included tips, examples and space to take notes - a useful tool for all future papers.

Jenn touched on aspects of writing that I'd never (ever) been taught to consider. She provided incredibly insightful ways to approach critical thinking, supporting arguments, even word choice. Jenn skills you in a manner that works to elevate your personal style and voice. I actually left wanting to write a persuasive essay for no reason.

Are you tired of stressing out because you've waited to the last minute to start writing your essay?

Q:

It's pretty much a rite of passage to leave a writing assignment until the last minute and have to sacrifice a night or two of sleep to stress-write with blurry, burning eyes an essay you knew about weeks ago.

Yes, I've been there. BUT, once I started figuring out how to start an essay instead of stress over an essay, and how to set start dates instead of due dates, the late nights and sore eyes disappeared.

Alright, let out that sigh of relief and now let's get you doing a little more relaxing and a little less stressing.
